There isn’t any particular faction that benefits defensively in Fall of the Samurai as everyone has the same Line Infantry style armies as you modernize, it’s more what tactics you use to defend successfully. If you play an Independent Obama campaign, you are forced to play defensively as you are in the middle of Japan and have to defend from the…[Read more]

Do you mean both my Empire and Dwarf guides? I’m happy for you to make a video based off those, if you need me to clarify or expand on any particular point, I’d be happy to do so.

EARLY GUIDE FOR THE EMPIRE (Warhammer)
Legendary Lord Pick.
As of writing, the Empire legendary lords have (thankfully) not been split into sub factions like many other factions have, so there is little variation in terms of unique campaign mechanics. The main differences are what they bring to your early campaign in terms of bonus units and…[Read more]

EARLY GUIDE FOR DWARF BEGINNERS:
Ok so for your Legendary Lord pick I would advise Grombrindal over Thorgrim for a couple of reasons.
1. Early traits – Thorgrim now has the Ancient Bloodline trait that can be unlocked early for him, whilst the extra public order, growth and extra untainted can be useful, it’s local only so if Thorgrim is off…[Read more] -

I get what you mean, the Civilization games have suffered the same problem, once you’ve explored the map and settled everywhere and are just hitting “end turn.” I’m sure CA could learn from other 4X games that try and address the problem. From grand coalitions you get in Paradox games to some Warhammer concepts, like you could implement the…[Read more]

MY PITCH FOR MY DREAM FUTURE TOTAL WAR GAME!
Preface: Ah ‘future.’ The problem with the word ‘future’ is there’s only your imagination that limits what ‘future’ can mean. “In the next 5 minutes of the future,” just give me Tomb Kings, Total War! 5, 10 years and beyond futures though…

I think the fear of not knowing how to counter works for both sides. The VC/Bretonnia/Chaos player could be equally baffled on how to counter, say an Empire/Dwarf/Lizardmen mix. That being said it would probably be better to limit the choices to a mix of 2 factions. Imagine watching (or taking part in!) a tournament on Twitch where seasoned…[Read more]

I like the idea of an army creator but I feel it’s true potential lies in multiplayer, not single player. If the Avatar conquest from Shogun 2 was reintroduced it would work great there or as a separate battle type in multiplayer. “Rouge Battles” perhaps?
The amount of factions you could blend together would tied to the fund size. Something like:…[Read more] -

The bulk of these ideas come from Warhammer 1, I have played very little of Warhammer 2.
All Tier V Cities with Tier V walls get the inner ring and I pointed out the exception with capitals since they don’t get the extra wall building. In all my play-throughs of Warhammer 1, I only would lose 1 province at the most before I could halt the…[Read more]

“how will you ever be able to take a city with all those buffs?”
I’m guessing you’re referring to my inner wall system? First of all you need the extra wall defence building at tier V to (or be a faction capital like Altdorf) get the full upgrade so it may not apply to every province capital. The A.I doesn’t always build the extra defence building…[Read more] -

I don’t think these should be too difficult to implement as most of the changes are minor troop animations, map design tweaks and tweaking stats and designs for siege equipment.
Most of the changes have been inspired from previous Total War games like inner walls from Medieval 2, troops climbing walls from Shogun 2 and mounted artillery like in…[Read more] -

Here’s hoping some of the better modders of the Total War community are looking at this page and are thinking “all of this would all be great in an overhaul mod!”

You’ve won me over with how undead factions would work with their populations. The other question I should have asked at the same time was how it would work with horde factions like Chaos and Beastmen? I can imagine Chaos hordes can grow in 2 ways. Through sacking cities, converting a large group of locals to follow Chaos to make it easier and…[Read more]

So what I’m understanding is that the army make-up is tied to difficulty settings more than anything else, right? Did you find that the extra stacks of higher tiered enemies that the Dark Elves used, justified the idea that the campaign settings were genuinely “very hard” or did you still beat them in battle without too much of a challenge?
I feel…[Read more] -

“I’m not that technically gifted but would it be able to give the modders the tools they need to work on the A.I. aswell?”
I’m not a modder so I can’t say if the A.I could be worked on. Given that A.I is a big weakness across all Total War games and the historical sandbox genre in general, Civilization games have the same problem! If a modder…[Read more] -

Do you remember what the build of the numerous Elf stacks were? If they were full of Spears, basic Archers and Silver Helms, I think that could be dealt with in a non auto-resolved way, assuming you fitted your stacks full of the best troops Queek and Kroc-Gar have to offer.
Now several stacks of Phoenix Guard, Swordmasters, Dragon Princes, etc…[Read more] -

I’m not sure if it’s the A.I’s economy that needs nerfing, as the A.I economic bonuses are more tied to game difficulty. I don’t believe the idea of the A.I sending a couple of stack of Skavenslaves would unbalance sieges. The real thing that the A.I needs addressing is it’s recruitment priorities. A.I too often spam recruit tier 1 and 2 units…[Read more]

I’m trying to work within the frame of what CA have already done. I don’t think it’s realistic for CA as developers to start from scratch in what I imagine will be another 36 month development cycle when they have new factions new campaigns . But maybe my suggestions are features that could be implemented in the timescale.
“If a city is…[Read more]

Whilst I agree with your points about population numbers, making cities feel impactful, grounded and real, that would be great for future historical Total Wars. This is fantasy, it doesn’t work in Warhammer. We don’t have “years” where generals can die from old age, we only have “turns” now. You need a recruitment system that works for all…[Read more]
