    Greetings JB5000… Bonsai enthusiasts typically choose Ceratodon purpureus and Bryum argeteum which are tiny, upright-growing moss colonies. They feel like velvet. If you want to use sideways moss species, I recommend Entodon seductrix. It is a shiny, flat moss and would offer the illusion of a lawn under your Ficus Bonsai creation. Entodon offers golden overtones if sun is intense. It is a prolific sporophyte producer (equivalent of flowers in vascular plants) occurring several times a year.
